How much money will I need in Bali for 10 days?

Going abroad has its own problem. One of them is about the exchange rate. Going to Indonesia means than you should know the exchange rate from Rupiah to Dollar. But one thing more important is, how much the reasonable price of things in Rupiahs is. I once go to Thailand and had a dinner. Then the bill come and we paid the bill. After that, the waiter kept waiting near us, perhaps looking for some tips. Since we don’t really know the range of price in bath (also that was our first night in Thailand), we only tipped him about 0.1 dollar! He looked disappointed and then left us. We talked about that and later we realized that was only 0.1 dollar, no wonder he felt sad LOL

So, what will rupiah gives to you?

Well, a dollar will be about 13k-14k rupiahs nowadays, and  depend on the places, you might know what you can spent with one dollar (in rural area of Java, you might have breakfast twice with 1 dollar, indeed it is not about the taste, but because you don’t have other choices!).

In Bali, the price might be higher. A meal in restaurant will costs about $6/person or about 70k rupiahs. Also other consideration, a menu of chicken with rice and coca-cola will cost you 2-4 dollar in KFC or McDonalds’ (25k-50k rupiahs). A motorbike rent will costs you $10 each day (100k-200k rupiahs), it is also depend on your location and this price is for the famous place such as Bali. Gift will cost you less than $100 in traditional market. Don’t forget that it is very usual in Indonesia to bargain, and every unlabeled things might be lowered to half price! Soyou also need to be careful, if you get unreasonably high price, leave them, since their half price might still twice the normal price! Another thing is the coins. The biggest value of coin in Rupiahs is 1000 rupiah. You can buy nothing with that. Even public toilet or public parking officer will cost you 2k-5k rupiahs. But that might be useful to be given to homeless. But don’t really be to often, because it is a public secret most of them are coordinated, and you may be shocked how much money they earn.

The One thing really famous in Indonesia is about the cheap massages. A massage might cost you about 10 until 30 dollar for about 90 minutes. and another famous thing in Indonesia is that the price for foreigner will be higher than the locals. It is very advised to see the common prices such as noted above and ask them the price for a ride, food, or even money changer! Never accept their offer before you know the price! Basically, even local people will be troubled with scam such like these, but the risk is higher for foreigners.
